The Oversized Clothing Trend Done Right
by Aniyah Morinia
The oversized clothing trend is making its way back into our closets just in time for winter and we have athleisure and a little bit of laziness to thank for that. You can now step out in a hoodie that is three times your size and still look chic. Comfortable and trendy? It’s a yes from us.
Gabrielle Union attended the Inspire A Difference Honors event looking oh so stylish in her all black pants suit. This is not your typical take on the oversized clothing trend but with the relaxed fit and high slit, the look is worth repeating. Union’s glowing skin peeks through her suit jacket, adding sexiness to an otherwise boring outfit.
2. Sorry Not Sorry
Covered in silver detailing and frayed hems, Lovato definitely brought the edge. Loosely hung over her shoulders, the top reveals her bold snakeskin bra which makes for a spunky and 90s inspired outfit. She avoided the look of drowning with detached corduroy bottoms that are tight enough to show her figure but loose enough to keep the outfit consistent.
3. Posh Pajamas
Sorry, she’s in pajamas but she just got off the private jet. Kourtney Kardashian arrived in San Francisco wearing the chicest pajamas (are we surprised?). Her opened silk top shows off her lacey bralette but this Kardashian never looks undone. The exposed drawstring pants cinch her waist and move the attention toward the long, flowing bottoms.
4. Monochromatic Muse (Ryan Destiny photo)
Ryan Destiny never fails to impress us with her cool girl sense of style and killer Instagram posts. She rocked this 90s inspired outfit to the Hip Hop Awards (how fitting?) and managed to combine all of the trends we are loving this time of year. Miniature sunglasses, white boots and oversized pieces definitely make this a look.
5. Sophisticated Songstress
Solange has never been afraid to make statements with her bold fashion sense. This neutral look definitely combats the brightly colored ensembles that we expect her to wear. Despite the lack of color, Solange was tailor-made for this eccentric and refreshing outfit.
6. Not My Boyfriend’s Clothes
Nazanin Mandi just taught us how to look like we stole our boyfriend’s clothes in the best way possible. The military jacket is a fall staple that we hold close to us during this time of year. Mandi opted for a statement jacket with white wording paired with the highly praised track pant. She rocks patent leather combat boots with her Louis backpack in tow, completing her effortless city girl look.
7. Model Off Duty
The time has finally come: hoodies are no longer reserved only for lazy days. We have photos of model Chanel Iman to prove it. She celebrated the launch of True Religion’s “The Great Revolt Capsule” in a hoodie dress layered with a long, oversized parka. This outfit embodies comfy casual and can easily be replicated just before winter hits.
8. Varsity Vision
In case you didn’t know, sweatpants can be worn as pants and not just as activewear. Ciara reps the Wilsons well and proves that sweatpants and hoodies can be stylish.
9. Fenty Fashion
Aside from being one of the biggest pop stars and beauty influencers of our generation, Rihanna is THE fashion rebel to look out for. She took the Canadian tuxedo to the next level with a matching denim set that is about five times her size. Belted and cuffed, she manages to draw attention to her flawless makeup and glowy skin as she struts through the streets of NYC.
10. Cut from the Same Cloth
As you may know, the sweatsuit made its comeback a few seasons ago and style influencers are not over it yet. Selena Gomez traveled to Paris Fashion Week sporting a red set that might have been deemed unfashionable during the era of skinny jeans. To elevate the outfit, she paired it with a pair of white strappy heels that created balance between the large silhouette and the slim footwear.
