How To Style the Micro Bag IRL

By Faith Riggs

One of the season’s biggest trends is ironically very tiny. The micro bag has previously been toted around by Rihanna, Beyoncé, and a variety of fashion influencers. We’ve certainly evolved from extra-large totes, Birkin’s and Neverfulls to carrying an accessory that holds just the bare essentials.

Ashley Petrie, the Merchandise director of Fred Segal, credits the rise of miniature bags to the wave of minimalism. She says in an interview with The Zoe Report ,“As consumers are set on scaling back and downsizing, this is starting to trickle down to bags. There was a time where a person’s entire life was stuffed in an extra-large hobo bag, but now mini bags are a nod to ‘only taking as much as you need.’”

There’s no denying that these bags are Instagrammable. Although nano in size, these bags don’t go unnoticed. Being worn by so many celebrities and influencers, this sparks the question: How functional are they in real life? WGSN, categorizes them as the “party bag.” It’s functional for nights when you don’t want to bring your entire wallet or makeup bag. And just large enough to hold your lipstick, phone, and a credit card.

Downtown Babe:

No matter if your weekends take you brunching with the besties or hitting up your favorite museum, this bag’s the ultimate ride-or die. Here, it’s styled with an oversized sweater, black skinnies, and white ankle booties. Just throw in a card holder, sunnies, and your favorite lippie!

Prints and Plaids:

A neutral micro bag can be the perfect to a print-heavy look. Coco Bassey, New York  lifestyle and fashion blogger, stuns us with this crescent shaped micro bag that simply takes this printed look to a whole other level.
